White House, July 11, 2019 – The fight to ask whether one is a citizen of the United States on the US Census is blocked by both legal challenges and the approaching deadline to get the census started.
With no time left to fight the issue through the courts, President Trump issues an Executive Order to all US Agencies and departments to hand over data they already have on the citizenship of those in their data bases. The President argued that for various reasons it is important to know how many living in the United States are citizens, vs aliens living in the US. AG William Barr says the issue of whether congressional districts should be drawn based on the number of those living in a district vs being based on the number of US citizens remains an open legal question.
