Illinois Agriculture’s Priority Issues

Springfield — Former Illinois State Senator John Sullivan (D) holds his first press conference as the nominee to be the state’s new Director of Agriculture.

Sullivan — who is himself a farmer from the Quincy area — is as knowledgeable on the ways of Springfield politics as he is running a combine. As a former member of the Appropriations committee, he has a deep knowledge of the budget process and the need to control spending.

And and as a farmer, he knows the impact severe regulations can have on the ability to farm. Trying to run a modern business where millions of dollars are invested in land and equipment, yet that very business is stymied by a lack of access to broadband, is also what Illinois’ new Ag Director is personally aware of — and the need to address the lack of high-speed internet connections in the state’s rural areas.

In this, his first press conference, Sec Sullivan shares his ideas on issues that his department will focus on — and he takes a surprise visit from Governor Pritzker.
