Springfield — Illinois went two years without passing a state budget, that hit its publicly funded universities especially had. Hundreds of millions of dollars were missing from university budgets. And that loss of funding came in the aftermath of Illinois cutting its financial support for Higher Education by 49% over the previous 16 years.
Now with a state budget in place over the last two years, we go One-on-One with Al Bowman, who spent many years with IL State University, and now serves as the Executive Director for the Board of Higher Education. We hear what the Board does, what is the current state of Higher Education in Illinois, and what changes are under consideration.
