US Supreme Court Rules 5-4, in Favor of President’s Travel Ban from Majority Muslim Nations

June 26, 2018 – The US Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that President Trump has the authority to apply a travel ban against those nations which he feels pose a threat to the nation.

The 5-4 decision upheld President Donald Trump’s ban on travel from seven majority Muslim countries.  The Court rejecting arguments that the ban exceeded the President’s authority.

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion which noted the President has the power to regulate immigration

But while ruling that the President has the authority to impose such a ban, Roberts wrote in his majority opinion that the Court was not making a value judgment on the merits of the travel ban, “We express no view on the soundness of the policy,” Roberts wrote.
