CHICAGO — Reports from various news organizations on Monday evening, say US Congressman Luis Gutierrez, will announce on Tuesday that he is not going to seek re-election.

Gutierrez, who will turn 64 on December 10, was first elected to Congress in 1992. Gutierrez, who is Puerto Rican, has been an outspoken voice on many issues that heavily impact Hispanics, with a fierce stance on immigration rights being among his top issues.
Speculation has already started about who may now run for Gutierrez’s seat, with some reports saying Cook County Commissioner Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, will now seek the 4th District congressional seat, which is heavily Democratic.
