From the Illinois Supreme Court: Our one-on-one with Chief Justice Lloyd Karmeier, as we talk about funding the courts, the costs of the legal system, whether Justices should be elected or appointed, and how technology is changing the legal profession.

Chief Justice Karmeier also discusses how the oral arguments before the Court, impact the process of determining the outcome of a legal decision, as compared to the written record presented in legal briefs.

The Chief Justice began his legal career in 1964. He was first elected to the Supreme Court in 2004, and retained in 2014. He became Chief Justice in October of 2016.
