From the House Chamber: Before the Illinois House passed SB-1947, the bill that reforms the school funding formula, it first voted it down, after an 40 min debate.
About an hour after voting it down, and then failing to override the Gov’s veto of the original bill, SB-1, the House took a second vote on SB-1947, and then passed it.
Here we have the long debate on the bill held prior to the first vote, as members voice their support and concerns over this major piece of legislation. This is the first reform of the Illinois school funding formula in 20 years.
