Historian Mark DePue on Fighting in the Trenches of WWI

From the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum:   Historian Mark DePue, a former Army officer, gives an overview of the fighting in WWI, the use of trench warfare, and the massive slaughter of young men that occurred when military tactics failed to consider the deadly consequences of modern weapons.

This address was given near the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, when Britain suffered 50,000 casualties, and 19,000 killed, on the first day of battle.
