From Chicago: Gov Bruce Rauner (R) again called on the state legislature to pass a Constitutional Amendment setting term limits. This is one of the key items on the Governor’s “Turn Around Agenda” which the governor argues is needed to fix much of the concentration of power in too few hands in Illinois.
House Speaker Michael Madigan — the longest serving House Speaker in the history of the nation — is often the example cited of what can happen when elected officials have no limit on how long they can serve. Speaker Madigan, and others, argue Term Limits limit voters choices, by taking qualified candidates off the ballot.
