Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton selects Senator Tim Kaine as her running mate.
Kaine is a Catholic, and viewed as one of the moderates of the Democratic party. He is also a former one-term governor of Virginia.
Many political observers questioned how this selection of a moderate will help Clinton solidify her base, and help to bring in the portion of the Democratic Party that supported Sen Bernie Sanders. Polls say some 40% of Sanders supporters will not support Clinton in the fall.
And what is sure to make it even more difficult for Clinton to pacify Sanders supporters, is the release on Friday, [July 22], that show some members of the DNC actively worked to undermine the campaign of Bernie Sanders.
One email that was released by Wikileaks, shows an effort to question whether Sanders — who is Jewish — really is a man of faith or if he’s an atheist.
It reads, “It might may no difference, but for KY and WVA can we get someone to ask his belief. Does he believe in a God. He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist.”

Others observers say selecting Kaine is a safe choice, who brings both governing experience, and years of service in the US Senate, who will help Clinton with those in the Democratic Party who felt Clinton had moved too far to the left during the primary campaigns against Sanders.
In the past, Kaine has been critical of the President’s handling of the fight against terrorism, saying we are not doing enough. Kaine also has a son serving in the Marines
