FROM THE STATE CAPITOL: Thousands turned out to make their opposition to Gov Rauner’s policies heard, at a massive rally held on Wednesday, May 18, on the grounds of the State Capitol.
Many were opposed to Gov Rauner’s earlier insistence that the use of union labor be made optional, and up to local governments to decide, when it came to hiring vendors on government contracts.
Speaking on behalf of the Illinois AFL-CIO, its President Michael Carrigan, said [that when it came to fighting the Gov’s policies] Illinois labor, “Will not be bullied, will not backdown, and will not give up.” in fighting for the working men and women in Illinois.
The organized rally was held after a long march down Capitol Ave toward the Capitol complex, where many held signs condemning the Rauner Administration.
