FutureGen Comes to Illinois

From Mattoon: Governor Rod Blagojevich speaks to city and business leaders following the announcement by the U.S. Department of Energy that Mattoon, Illinois will be the site of the $1.5 billion FutureGen project.  FutureGen is designed to allow for the clean use of coal.  Construction of the project will create hundreds of new jobs and hold the promise of expanding the use of Illinois coal in meeting the nation's energy needs.

Reporting on Teacher Misconduct in Schools

Launching a Statewide Medical Broadband Network

From the State Capitol in Springfield: the Illinois House of Representatives meets in a Committee of the Whole to hear testimony on the impact of Governor Blagojevich's veto of some $483 million from the FY 2008 budget, which was passed in August.  The vetoed funds include programs for bridge construction, social service agencies, and veterans, to name just a few.  This hearing is part of the annual Fall Veto Session, when legislators decide whether or not to override gubernatorial vetoes.

Dilling, et al.  This case concerns whether there was fraudulent misrepresentation of a health issue.  The suit involves a Jane Doe who contracted the HIV virus from her fiancé.  Jane Doe alleges misrepresentation of her fiancé's health status by both her fiancé, who died from AIDS, and his parents.

From the Department of Energy in Washington, DC: our one-on-one interview with Tom Sarkus, project director for FutureGen.  FutureGen is a major project designed to advance the use of coal without damaging the environment.  In this interview, we hear about the potential benefits of the project and the process of deciding where to locate the project.  On November 1, the Department of Energy is scheduled to announce if the $1.5 billion FutureGen project will be located in Texas or Illinois.

Chicago Options Associates, Inc., et al.  The background of this case concerns Brian Dowling's attempt to collect financial judgments he won against two defendants, Chicago Options Associates, Inc. and Michael Davis.  In part, the court must decide whether funds Davis deposited earlier with a law firm should be awarded to Dowling as part of the judgment owed him.
