From the State Supreme Court in Springfield: as the nation discusses healthcare reform, one topic concerns medical malpractice lawsuits against doctors and hospitals. Illinois passed its own version of medical malpractice reform which limits damages to $500,000 for doctors and $1,000,000 for hospitals. The constitutionality of this law was challenged last November in the case of Lebron v. Gottlieb Memorial Hospital. We offer an encore presentation of the constitutional arguments as they were presented before the Court.
