February 19, 2020 — The first morning he’s been at home again after his release from Federal prison, former Gov Rod Blagojevich (D) speaks to the media with his family to thank President Trump for commuting his sentence and allowing him to be released early.
The former Governor, the only governor in the history of Illinois to be impeached and removed from office, spoke of his love for his family and how long he was away from his daughters and how they’ve grown.
During the event, Blagojevich wiped away drops of blood from his chin — noting it’s been a long time since he was able to shave with a blade razor, and that he had cut himself shaving. Blagojevich spoke on criminal justice system and the inequities within the system.
This is a topic that President Trump has also championed and partially why releasing Blagojevich fit into the criminal justice reform agenda of the Trump administration, that has highlighted how long some of the sentences are, and how unequal in their application.
