From Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey: A panel, including the President’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, who serves as an advisor to the President, joins with Congressman Rodney Davis (R) and leaders in business and labor, to discuss the need to fill many jobs in the trades, as a wave of retirements is creating a labor shortage. We also hear from three students who share how the skills they gained from courses at Lewis & Clark, opened new careers for them.
With so many “Baby Boomers” now leaving the workforce, there is a growing skills gap, that is leaving many fields without the number of workers needed. Jobs in fields such as welding, pipefitters, nursing, construction, are all experiencing shortages of qualified workers.
We hear how the need to fill these positions, is behind a movement to bring together educators at Community Colleges, with labor unions, corporations, and others, to help close the gap in these fields experiencing labor shortages.
