State Capitol May 30, 2018 – Dixon school resources officer, Mark Dallas heard shots as students were gathered in the school gymnasium to practice for their graduation ceremony. Upon hearing the shots, Officer Dallas charged toward the sounds and chased the shooter, who carried a rifle and began shooting toward Dallas.
Officer Dallas returned fire and wounded the suspect, who was identified as a former student, who survived his wounds and is now under arrest. In having a day named in his honor, Officer Dallas said he was no hero but just a dad, like so many others, who loves his children. Dallas’ own son was in the gymnasium when the shooting started.
