Illinois Capitol Memorial Day Ceremony Honors the Sacrifices of the Military and Their Families

From the Illinois State Capitol: Gov Rauner, Republican Senate Leader Brady, members of the military and a mother who lost her son in Afghanistan in 2010, honor the nation’s military members, their families and especially those who gave their lives in combat.

This ceremony is one of many to be held around the state and the nation on this Memorial Day weekend, to recall the sacrifices made by so many to ensure the freedoms that the nation is founded upon.

Since the Civil War, some 204 members of the military from Illinois have been awarded the Medal of Honor, including 15 veterans of the Vietnam War, who were recipients of the nation’s highest military honor.
