Proposal to Expand Eligibility for Home Rule in Illinois

From the State Capitol: Brad Cole with the Illinois Municipal League is joined by the Mayors of New Lenox and Macomb, as they discuss a proposed constitutional amendment that will allow for voters to expand the eligibility for home rule, to communities that have a population of 5,000.

Currently the threshold of a community applying for Homerule is a population of 25,000.  The mayors say why such a move will help smaller communities manage their limited financial resources, and provide better municipal services to residents
