
Former Rep Elgie Sims (D) on Friday took the oath of office as the newest member of the Illinois state senate, replacing former Sen Donne Trotter, who resigned last week, after a 30 year career in the legislature.
Sims, an attorney and former police officer, served in the Illinois House since August of 2012. Born in Chicago, Sims holds a B.A. in Political Science from Illinois State University, an M.P.A. from the University of Illinois and a J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. He and his wife reside in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood with their two daughters
