Correction Officers Say IL Prisons are Dangerously Understaffed

Springfield: Roberta Lynch, Executive Director of AFSCME Council 31, is joined by correction officers working in Illinois prisons, who lay out a series of problems, that have lead to a sharp increase in attacks on prison staff.

The correctional officers say the policies being implemented by Dpt of Corrections, are putting their lives at risk, and endangering local communities, in part, by attempting to save money when they transfer maximum security prisoners to medium or low-security prisons.  Because murderers and rapists are now being kept in lower security prisons than they should be in, the officers say members of the local community are also at risk.
