From the State Capitol: We speak with Dave Lundy [ an IL Channel Board Member] as he explains why a coalition of interests, “The Best Coalition” feel it is bad policy to give subsidies to ComEd, in the wake of their announcement that they will close two nuclear power plants, unless the state will subsidize their cost of operations.
At stake – 4200 jobs between the two plants, and millions of tax dollars that go to local schools in the Quad Cities, and Clinton, where the two plants are located. But opponents argue the plants are unneeded, and it’s wrong to give subsidies to a corporation already making billions in profits.
This interview was held a few hours before the legislature passed the bill, SB-2814. Gov Rauner issued a statement that he would sign the bill into law.
