A Panel of Lawmakers Discuss Whether Illinois’ School Funding Formula is UnFair in the Way Funds are Distributed

From the City Club of Chicago:  A panel of state lawmakers discuss the education funding formula, and whether it’s fair.  Sen Andy Manar (D), a member of the panel, has spent several years trying to reform the formula that determines how much state aid a district will get. Sen Manar has argued the current funding formula is unfair to rural districts, which have fewf commercial and residential properties to tax.  And, that districts in areas with low property taxes, like the Southside of Chicago, or East St. Louis, also are at a disadvantage.   But while many accept his points… How to fix it, without causing harm to other districts and taxpayers, is a major area of disagreement.  And those, must be overcome before there can be the political will to change the current system
